Roles of Silicon Calcium Alloy in the Steel Industry
Silicon calcium alloy plays an important role in the steel industry. It is mainly used for:
  • As a deoxidizer and desulfurizer in steelmaking. Silicon and calcium have strong affinity for oxygen and sulfur respectively, improving steel performance by removing impurities.
  • As an effective warming agent when added to steel ingot heads, improving steel quality and yield rate.
  • As a deoxidizing, desulfurizing and inoculant in cast iron production, more effective than ferrosilicon for improving cast iron performance.
For optimal performance, the alloy particle size should be about 2mm and added directly to iron flow troughs, mixing furnaces or ladles.
